Omnicell helps increase capacity in ICU at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust

With the Covid-19 pandemic putting unprecedented pressure on the NHS, Omnicell is supporting Trusts to increase capacity by rapidly supplying products and services to help frontline workers to meet the increasing demand.

Omnicell has fast-tracked production and deployment of their XT Automated Dispensing Cabinets to help increase capacity wherever needed. The organisation has removed all barriers to ordering, shipping and installation and simplified the procurement process to supply hospitals as soon as needed. Now, Omnicell can deliver cabinets to a Trust in just 14 days.

At the beginning of April, Omnicell supported Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust to expand capacity in ICU from 100 to 300 beds. At Guy’s Hospital, the Trust is using existing cabinets in its Theatre Recovery area, which has been repurposed to increase capacity to treat Covid-19 respiratory cases. And at St Thomas’s Hospital, Omnicell supplied additional automated cabinets to two wards to create a brand new ICU. These new wards are now fully operational with medication and supplies readily available from Omnicell’s automated cabinets to help support nursing staff treating patients in the most challenging of circumstances.

David Lawson, Chief Procurement Office at Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Trust, said:

We’d like to thank the Omnicell team for providing on-site support so our supply chain team could enable rapid build of additional inventory management systems as part of our expansion of ICU capacity in response to Covid-19.”
